Sudan: Cash transfers to the poor

KHARTOUM (Reuters) - Sudan is discussing many ideas, including cash transfers to the poor, as well as planned subsidies for food and other basic commodities, Prime Minister Abdullah Hamdouk said.
Hamdouk said cash transfers are one of the ideas discussed to offset the reduction in food and other subsidies. He gave no further details, but said the plan included support for medicines, medical services and education.
He said during a visit to Darfur in the west of the country, where poverty has been rife after conflict and violence for more than 15 years, that the issue of support is one of the most important and greatest challenges.
