Egypt to bid for wind and solar power projects in 2018

The head of the new and renewable energy authority, the Egyptian Ministry of Electricity, said that the Authority is planning to bid for wind power and solar power projects with a capacity of 400 megawatts in 2018.

Mohammed Al-Khayyat told Al-Borsa newspaper that the agency has contracted with a consultant for the construction of a 20 megawatt solar power station financed by the Japanese Cooperation Agency (JICA).

He explained that the Authority intends to submit the tender for the project to the Arab and international companies in May 2018, and that the booklet of conditions are ready in February.

On Oct. 29, 2017, the Ministers of Electricity, Investment and International Cooperation signed agreements with 13 companies to invest $ 863 million in solar projects in Penban, Aswan, provided that the IFC provides about 75.6% of the project investment expenditure.
